Our Stated Supply Pastor
Rev. Holly Ulmer feels blessed and excited that the Holy Spirit called her to our church. Likewise, many members of our Congregation are grateful to have such an experienced and dynamic leader become part of our Berwyn church family. She is already known by many in our church community for her work at the U of MD and as a guest Pastor. She looks forward to getting to know new members and become reacquainted with longstanding ones. She is pleased with the warm welcome she has received and looks forward, with God’s leading, to begin a new chapter in the life of our dear Berwyn Congregation.
Rev. Holly grew up on Long Island with her sister Cheryl. Her parents, Kurt and Edith, instilled in her the importance of faith, the love of family, and the appreciation of music. These three constants have remained a guiding light in her life. Rev. Holly received her B.A. in Music and English from Bucknell University. She continued her education at Princeton Theological Seminary where she received a Master of Divinity Degree with a concentration in preaching. Later she trained in Clinical Pastoral Education at the Washington Hospital Center and Holy Cross Hospital. She has worked as an Intern Pastor, as a youth minister, and as an on-call Chaplain at Holy Cross Hospital. Starting in October 1990, she began serving as the United Campus Ministry Chaplain at the University of Maryland where she finds joy in ministering to and with students as they journey from “inherited faith” to “owned faith” during their challenging college years. She has facilitated classes to build bridges of understanding between students from diverse worldviews that are often in conflict with each other. She participates in a Be the Bridge group, a community committed to racial justice and healing. As we get acquainted with Rev. Holly, we will learn more of her gifts, her special trainings and the variety of skills that she brings to our Congregation. We are truly Blessed to have her share these gifts with us.
In her free time, Rev. Holly loves to sing and to play the violin which she often does with the Prince George’s Philharmonic. She enjoys sharing a good meal with family or friends, communing with the beauty of Nature, enjoying a concert, art, theatre (especially musical theatre), a good read and the adventure of international travel. She is not immune to binging on a good Netflix or PBS series.
As Rev. Holly settles in, she will share her contact information and other important details. Please keep her and our Congregation in your prayers as we begin the process of working together.
